Hello Classmates.
I would like to start off with that I think this relaxation exercise relaxed my son more than it did me. My son was in the bed with me when I started this exercise. I couldn't help but chuckle because of him. When the man on the audio said to repeat relax, my son repeated it and about 2-3 minutes later he completely crashed.
Now on to how this exercise helped me. It was very relaxing. I could have fallen asleep and I felt my body get all spongy =). But I did not feel fully energized when it was over. Nor did I feel that I wanted to fall asleep like I did at the beginning. I think if I could continue to listen to something such as this exercise that I could see that this would be something I would like to incorporate in my daily ever day life. Although, I don't have any real stresses in my life other than the typical getting my son out of bed for school and arguing with him to do his homework, sometimes that can be enough stress in one's life. But I will say that the highlight of this exercise was my son.
See you all later! Happy Blogging!

I was just wondering if you could feel the warmth and heaviness in your hands come and go? I could, and I also was surprised how focused I was for my homework. I expected the restfullness but not the mental alertness.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny about your son! I think the audio clip had the same affect on me as well! I definitely could feel my hands get heavy and my muscles relax. I loved the "wet sponge" concept, I felt it was a great way to explain the idea of muscles bending and relaxing. I, like you, however, did not really feel all that energized after the session. Do you have any suggestions on why you think that is?

Intriguing that you also had your son there for the experience! The first few times I ever tried meditation, I fell asleep! Although I was glad about the experience, I was kinda mad I fell asleep since I didn't get all the way through the meditation session!
ReplyDeleteI was curious if in the future you will continue to have your son participate with you on these exercises? Seems like it really relaxed him too; enough to fall asleep!
Have a great week!

Hi Casey! My 11 year old daughter had the same reaction to this exercise as your son! I found her doing a face-plant in her homework at the kitchen table when I was done with listening to the audio! Too funny! Perhaps we have discovered the secret to getting kids to go to sleep when we want them to! We could make some money on this one!
ReplyDeleteI can see how beneficial this type of exercise could be if used on a regular basis. My problem will be carving out a piece of time for it.

Hi Casey,
ReplyDeleteI love that this exercise had that effect on your son AND that you were able to enjoy it with him:) I can relate to the early morning wake up for school moments and the routine homework arguments as well. If I neglect to turn on my son's "on switch" in the mornings he will definitely let me know via the over exaggerated sluggish sloth walk.
It's great that you had such positive benefits from this exercise and even better that your son had them as well:)

I was cracking up when I read that your son was doing it along with you and then eventually passed out. I'm definitely going to try it with my 4 year old though I'm a bit skeptical due to her being a non-stop ball of energy. Don't you wish you could borrow some of the child's energy? I do!
ReplyDeleteI personally enjoyed the Journey on relaxation session. I've tried others and they didn't quite have the same affect as this guy but I'm sort of partial to his voice. I found it to be very relaxing.
I felt the warmth enter in and out of my arms and the heaviness come and go. I was intrigued. However, I wasn't completely energized when I was done since it was about 10pm when I did it but I was alert. That's something right? :) Overall, I liked it.
