Loving Kindness Exercise

I really enjoyed this exercise. I'll be honest it was hard at first trying to have my eyes close and trying to remember all of the phrases. But luckily I got it down. What I like most about this exercise is that its love towards our world and everything in it. It seems like our world keeps getting uglier and uglier and there is so much hatred, so much violence towards each other. There is so much unhappiness in our world. I saw a news clip last night about this 6 month baby who would have been six years old this year but her parents raped her and abused her. They showed pictures of this little baby and she had bite marks, lacerations and bruises all over her body. On her last day of her life they threw her up to the ceiling and let her fall to the ground. This is the world that surrounds us that these parents would do this to their child who was 6 months. How sad.

The integral assessment was good as well. The area that I would like to focus more in my life right now is my pychospiritual. That is the area that I need the most. I want to start going back to church and having a feeling of a community. Carve some time out to read the bible. I need more spirituality in my life.

Well until next time, happy blogging.

  1. Hi Casey,
Stories like the one you mentioned remind me that there is a lot in our world today that is evil. When I worked as a 911 operator it seemed to me that was all there was. One of the nicest things about switching careers was getting to see more of the positive side of human nature again. I know all the bad stuff still exists but I can focus on the good. I liked the way this exercise helps us to do that.

  2. Hello Casey,
I am glad that you enjoyed the exercise. It is very important to have love for our world and everything in it. It does seem like our world has so much hatred and violence towards each other. There is definitely a lot of unhappiness in our world, and as they are given the knowledge on how to redirect their energy from an exclusive focus on outer things to a focus on inner development, there will be a change.
I do not watch the news. I pray for the world and I can feel a lot of the pain people have. I have also decided to grow more positively by not watching any movies that produce violence. I try to be an example of having what it takes for people to use my example to make a change in their lives. I am glad you like the integral assessment. I definitely plan to modify my life as my characteristics change and set an example for the world. I must learn because I cannot give what I do not have. Without my spiritual life being charged up, my mind and body would be full of chronic pain. Thank God for knowledge and wisdom. Blessings…..

  3. Hi Casey,

Unfortunately it seems like violence is around most corners these days. Thankfully we are a species that can utilize our minds in a manner that lets us know that even when violence seems like it's the norm- it is not. While reading about your post, individuals like Andrea Yates came to mind. How can a person kill their child? Beyond all of the underlying psychological issues and without completely breaking the thought process of these people down into pieces, it is safe to say that these are definitely not "well" people. That is not to say they are insane, many people have been quite lucid while committing a heinous act- but they certainly were not well.

I am glad that this news story effected you the way that it did... meaning that if you didn't react with shock, and anger, and hurt, and confusion, then I would be concerned about you either being unwell or an alien at best... Having said that, tragedies like this one also remind us that humans are capable of terrible wrongs- which in turn reminds us that humans are also capable of incredible rights. Take a minute, hug the ones you love and thank God for everything that you have... and then make the most out of your day.

    Best wishes.

  4. Casey,

Well, I was so sadden by your story of the 6 month old child that was killed by her parents. The animals that live among us are just that...vicious animals. I am a 7 year veteran of law enforcement and thank God I have only seen a few cases of neglect. I am an officer that has been spared being witness to the heinous acts of others.

I think working in law enforcement and 911 centers, we do hear and see tragic things during our careers. But perhaps what can keep most of us from loosing our sanity is remaining grounded, meditating, not loosing sight of why we were chosen to do these jobs.

As you know, working in a 911 Center is not for everyone! I just started doing it part-time on some of my off days! It's an eye-opening experience and makes me appreciate our dispatchers & 911 call takers even more.

Hope you have a great week!
    Michelle
